You're right, it is still early, and I can tell you that everyone wishes we had a full released version at MAX this year. But a bunch of things had to happen before we could even really get cranking on Flash Catalyst (including FXG, CS4, the new Flex 4 stuff). But you nailed all of the reasons I'm excited about it. Because, to become a successful blogger - it takes time and after that I can generate some money to survive in world. Where a site developer or a designer they are always busy with lots of freelance works - earning money, making funs, etc. Even, what should I learn and what shouldn't it makes me tried - you know lots of people publishing lots of tips but they don't cares which one is for who's. Being a "good designer" is a hard thing to measure. It also depends on what you are designing for. So find what you are a good at, and keep working at it.
